Network Administrator/IT Support Engineer

The Network Administrator’s primary responsibility is to provide second-level support to Safety Net clients and provide overflow resources for level I support.  This position will perform network systems maintenance, infrastructure management and troubleshooting.  Network Administrators in the Support Services Group may also bridge/share responsibilities for on-site full network administration as described later in this document.


Technical Services

  • Accept escalations from the Level 1 support queue
    • Find and remedy “root cause” issues
  • Provide overflow assistance to Level 1 support queue
  • Remotely assist clients with support needs
  • Clearly communicate status on tickets
  • Exceed SLA guarantees to Safety Net clients
  • Clearly document all tasks
  • Assist Deployment Engineers with deployment projects
  • Maintain high customer satisfaction
  • Participate in team on-call rotation, handling urgent after-hours tickets


  • Act as a mentor to other support team members
  • Provide leadership within small team; coordinate team daily activity

  • Maintain and troubleshoot virus protection systems
  • Maintain and troubleshoot web content filtering systems
  • Maintain and troubleshoot spam filtering systems


  • Minimum one year Network Administrator-level experience working as an outside support resource or two years relevant experience working as an internal support resource
  • Two-year degree or higher required, 3.2 GPA
  • Current Microsoft server Operating System certification required within the first year of employment. Current Microsoft desktop Operating System certification desired, but not required, with applicable work experience
  • CompTIA certifications are desired, but not required, with applicable work experience and/or college coursework
  • Firm understanding of networking principles:
    • Client Server networking
    • TCP/IP
      • Routing
      • DNS
      • WINS
      • DHCP
      • the Internet​
    • Switching
  • Knowledge of CAT5 wiring
  • Firm knowledge of wireless security and wireless client configuration
  • Knowledge of Active Directory
    • Ability to describe in basic detail applications of Group Policy
  • Understanding of network firewalling/security technology
    • NAT
    • Port mapping
    • Access-lists
  • Firm knowledge of server maintenance tasks:
    • Backup software monitoring and troubleshooting
    • Disk defragmentation
    • Event log review
    • Hardware monitoring tool review
  • Corporate antivirus software experience.  Symantec Endpoint Protection preferred
  • Spyware removal
  • Troubleshooting fundamentals
    • Ability to break problems down and use a logical process of elimination
  • Firm understanding of server and desktop hardware
    • Ability to diagnose hardware problems
    • Understanding of different RAID levels
    • Familiarity with server and desktop hardware diagnostic tools
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions to accomplish more complex tasks.  Example: Small Business Server initial configuration
